Walking partners for Friends of the Peak District

A local charity has teamed up with an outdoors pursuits and social group to put together a programme of fundraising walks and events in the Peak District this spring and summer.

Friends of the Peak District and Large Outdoors have launched a series of events ranging from abseiling 80 feet off Millers Dale bridge through to an atmospheric yomp across Stanton Moor and the Nine Ladies Stone Circle.

“We are absolutely delighted to be supporting Friends of the Peak District. We get out to the Peak District a lot but it’s easy to take this beautiful area for granted. It makes a lot of sense for us to join the charity dedicated to protecting these incredible landscapes,” said Gareth Williams, Director of Large Outdoors.

“This support from Large Outdoors is fantastic. We are so pleased to have them on board as a corporate friend. These events are great fun, and people will have a great day out knowing that they are also helping to safeguard the Peak District,” said Carol Robinson, Chief Executive of Friends of the Peak District.

The walks and events include

  • Chee Dale and Millers Dale – five great dales in the White Peak on 26 February
  • Lathkill Dale and the Nine Ladies Stone Circle – stunning Limestone Way views on 25 March
  • Shriek for the Peak Charity Abseils – jump 80 feet from Millers Dale bridge on 5 April and 10 June
  • The Roaches and Lud’s Church – fantastic views over the Staffordshire and Cheshire plains on 6 May

All the proceeds from the walks will be donated directly to Friends of the Peak District’s work protecting the Peak District countryside.

TV presenter Julia Bradbury is president of Friends of the Peak District, and is encouraging people to get involved:

“The Peak District was probably the place that fired my love of the countryside, and I’m still passionate about the amazing Peak landscapes today. If, like me, you love walking here, then join Friends of the Peak District for this great range of walks and events.”
