The High Peak Trail
is one of the longer trails in the Peak District, stretching seventeen and a half miles from High Peak Junction on the Cromford Canal to Dowlow near Buxton, and follows the old Cromford Railway. An ideal trail for horse riders, cyclists and walkers, it is also suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs along the flat sections. Picnic sites, car parks and information centres are all provided to ensure visitors get the most out of their time in the magnificent setting of the Derbyshire countryside.
Hire cycles (replaced annually) are available between April and October and can be found at Parsley Hay car park and also at Middleton Top.

At Parsley Hay the trail connects with The Tissington Trail…

The Tissington Trail runs from Ashbourne to Parsley Hay and is 13 miles of picturesque beauty.
Clearly signposted routes for both rambler and cyclist take the visitor on a scenic trip along the old Buxton to Ashbourne railway line, happily bereft of the interference of cars or noise pollution.
Shorter routes are available along with an Information Point, based at Hartington’s former signal box, which is open on Saturday’s, Sunday’s and Bank Holidays during the summer. Together with the High Peak Trail, The Tissington Trail is the oldest of the Peak District trails.

The Monsal Trail
runs for 8 and a half miles between Bakewell and the stunning views of Monsal Head. Following the River Wye, this trail is one of the very best you’ll find in the Peak District.
The highlight for many is the dramatic view from Monsal Head; standing high above the dale this is the best viewpoint for admiring the breathtaking Monsal Viaduct. With rocky diversions around closed tunnels, it is unsuitable for cycling at its western half, though the section between Bakewell and Longstone offers a very pleasant and manageable ride.
