Poole's Cavern is a 2 million year old, natural limestone cave situated in the beautiful woodland of Buxton Country Park.
One of the great caves of the Peak District.

Poole's Cavern, set in the beautiful woodlands of Buxton Country Park, has been recognised as "The First Wonder of the Peak" since 1680.

The Cavern's earliest visitors were Stone Age cave dwellers who sheltered from the harsh Derbyshire climate under the cavern entrance - thousands of artefacts left behind by these ancient people have recently been unearthed.

Today visitors are escorted through the well lit chambers and passages by expert guides who unfold the story of the cavern’s development, history, myths and mysteries.

Back above ground are the Visitor centre, Shop and Picnic Areas and the opportunity to stroll through the woods to Grinlow Summit which, at 1440 feet above sea level, offers dramatic views across the surrounding Peak District.
