Details: The Chestnut Centre is a wildlife and Conservation Park taking it's name from the mature tree near the car park entrance gate which was officially planted to commemorate Queen Victoria's Coronation.

The Centre's extensive nature trail nestles in 50 Parkland acres on the lower slopes of the Kinder Scout Plateau.

What is our mission and purpose?

We aim to encourage with the help of our animal ambassadors the conservation of wildlife and wild places through environmental education, captive breeding and rehabilitation.

Otters -

We have four species of otters including the only
pair of Giant Otters in the United Kingdom.

Owls -

We have all the British indigenous species - at present our Long-Eared Owls are on loan to the Owl Centre at Muncaster Castle in Cumbria. Other owls include the South America Spectacled Owl and the extremely busy Burrowing Owl.

Deer -

Our herd of Fallow Deer graze the 25 acre moorland meadow. The buck "Herne" was a wild rescued orphan, who was not expected to reach maturity but has now sired 8 young.

Scottish Wild Cats and Foxes -

The Wild Cats were bred in captivity at our New Forest Centre and along with the wild rescued foxes arrived at the Chestnut Centre last year where they have settled well into their specially designed accommodation.

Facilities

Tea room and picnic areas.

Free Parking.

Wildlife Gift Shop for unusual Souvenirs.

School parties and groups welcomed. Guided tours, and worksheets provided. Special discounts available.

It is regretted that dogs are not allowed in the Park (except guide dogs for the blind).

Feeding of our birds and mammals is not allowed - all of them have specialised diets.
