The village is protected on the other side by the steep slopes of Sir William Hill rising o'er the brow to Eyam Moor and Bretton with its lovely pub, the Barrel.
Further on is Great Hucklow (of Gliding fame), whilst the Longshaw Estate and Padley Gorge sit at the northern end of the parish.
Grindleford train station is thriving, and as the rail gateway to the Peaks villagers, tourists to the area and walkers make the most of it.

There is a charming cafe, appropriately called Station Café, at the station that serves drinks and snacks, and is popular with walkers.
The nearby Longshaw Estate, in the care of the National Trust, is worth a visit, they are open daily from June to September, Wednesday to Sunday in April, May and October and at weekends throughout the rest of the year. The estate can be reached by car or by bus from Grindleford station.
With the River Derwent flowing aside the village this is walking country par excellence.
Near to Grindlebrook is the village of Frogatt, which is also very pretty and a popular destination with both climbers and walkers.
There is a 'gastro pub' in Frogatt which serves good food, called the Chequers Inn (Tel: 01433 630231).
