Accommodation details

Tom’s Barn is one of our two five star romantic cottages for two – the perfect choice for couples of any age wanting to escape together to enjoy luxury, peace and quiet in an idyllic country village setting. It is also ideal for single people holidaying on their own – maybe to write that novel, or paint…. Dogs are welcome in Tom’s Barn but neither barn is suitable for children of any age other than babes in arms.

Our two holiday cottages are attached to our own house, Orchard Farm, which lies on the edge of the traditional limestone village of Parwich. There is open countryside next door with wonderful walks right from the door in every direction and yet the village pub, shop (in the pub), church and bus stop are all a leisurely five minute stroll away. We never intrude, but on the other hand are there if needed.

Tariff & Availability
During 2009 the price for Tom's Barn ranges from £415 to £535 per week depending on exact dates. There is an extra (the only extra!) charge of £20 per dog or other pet

We do short breaks (Mon to Fri (4-nights) or Fri to Mon 3-nights at 70% of the relevant weekly rate throughout the winter months of October to the end of March.

More Information
Tom’s Barn is immediately warm, welcoming and friendly. It has a farmhouse-y feel, with its quarry tiles and log burner yet at the same time it feels spacious and full of light. The sitting room is exposed to the rafters with large south-facing gable end window, with enormous wooden shutters which make it all very cosy when you hunker down in front of the fire of an evening.

There is a delightful galleried bedroom still with its original (low!) roof truss and a very special deep two-seater ensuite whirlpool bath complete with candle and plastic champagne glasses!

It is equipped and furnished throughout to a very high standard, with almost everything you could possibly need for a totally relaxed holiday.

Outside Tom’s Barn guests have a private cottage garden with picnic table, parasol and barbecue, and off road parking.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome.

‘Things to do
There is more to do or see than can possibly be listed here, but, as a start…

Outdoor activities:
There is wonderful walking over the hills and along the numerous dales, and along the High Peak or Tissington Trails. There is also cycling, water sports on Carsington Reservoir, fishing, golfing and riding. We can lend you tennis rackets and bikes, and if you wish to bring your horse we can arrange stabling and grazing … Dovedale is only a few miles away as are the Staffordshire Moorlands.

Sightseeing, shopping, antiques and the theatre:
Chatsworth House, Kedleston Hall, Haddon Hall and Tissington are all within half an hour’s drive; there are caves, museums, gardens, antiques and boutiques; theatres (Buxton Opera House is the nearest); well-dressings, festivals and open air concerts.

Good food and drink:
There are plenty of good restaurants and pubs in the area, farmers’ markets and specialist food shops. Our next door neighbour runs a catering service and will personally deliver a pre-ordered meal.

We also own Douglas’s Barn… s
