Peak District National Park Authority

Introduction

England’s beating heart, the Peak District National Park, is the second most visited National Park in the world, after Japan’s Mount Fuji...

Established in 1951, it is looked after by the Peak District National Park Authority, the role of which is to oversee the Park’s welfare – primarily the conservation and preservation of the area’s untamed beauty, cultural heritage and wildlife.

The Authority’s remit is all-encompassing, and presides over specialist areas such as Ranger Services, biodiversity, landscape management, climate change action plans, development, planning, an array of schemes and initiatives, the EQM award and many, many more.

Working closely with local people, local businesses, visitors and organisations, the Authority offers both day-to-day and mid to long-term guidance, always with the same goal in mind.

With millions of visitors annually, nearly 3000 listed buildings, 109 conservation areas, 38,000 local residents and precisely 8,756km of drystone walls, you can be sure the work never dries up!
