Peak District Environmental Quality Mark

Introduction

The Peak District Environmental Quality Mark is an enterprising, pioneering award bestowed upon worthy businesses in the local area...

The Peak District and its associates are no strangers to innovation and trailblazing.

In 1951 the Peak District became the very first National Park in the British Isles, and some years later the Parks’ Mountain Rescue Teams became the first to use police ‘Tetra’ radios to aid rescues.

And now we have the Peak District Environmental Quality Mark – an enterprising, pioneering award bestowed upon worthy businesses in the local area. It’s an award scheme that benefits both the recipient business and, most importantly, the Peak District itself, and can only be achieved by businesses which contribute to the conservation of the Peak District National Park and demonstrates good environmental practice.

There are several key areas a business needs to target if they are to qualify for the Quality Mark:

- Sourcing products from land managed for conservation within the Peak District National Park – this helps conserve the important characteristics of the Peak District as well as reducing the carbon footprint

- Efficient energy and water use, aided by undertaking a number of simple energy-saving initiatives

- Use of environmentally-friendly products

- Minimisation of waste by reducing, reusing and recycling

- Provision of environmental information to customers

Naturally all of the above practices can only benefit our National Park, but it also goes without saying that the award in turn greatly benefits a business.

The EQM logo is more than just a mark of quality; it tells the consumer that their product is local, or at least making a contribution to the conservation of the Peak District. It tells the customer that the business is passionate and proud of the environment - and that can only be a great thing, right?
