With a name that means ‘Heathers Edge’, the pretty village of Hathersage is located in the stunning scenery of the Peak District National Park. Situated at the beginning of the Hope Valley and close to excellent walking routes through Edale, many visitors come to Hathersage to visit the churchyard and grave of Robin Hood's sidekick, Little John. The area is also thought to have inspired Charlotte Bronte’s famous novel ‘Jane Eyre’, following her visit to Hathersage vicarage in 1845. Despite the village's size, it has a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat, as well as an open-air heated swimming pool. There is also a railway station, allowing visitors to explore the region without having to worry about the car.
